NEET PG counselling, round by round
What happens after your result, who runs which seats, and the steps from registration to joining your college.
The basics
Who runs counselling
NBEMS conducts the NEET PG exam and publishes the result. Seat allotment happens through counselling, which is split between two kinds of authorities.
MCC (Medical Counselling Committee) runs counselling for the All India Quota seats in government medical colleges, deemed and central universities, and DNB seats, among others.
State counselling authorities run counselling for state quota seats and most private college seats in their state, each with its own rules and schedule.
Many students register for both. Always check the official notice for the round you are in, because rules on upgrades, exits and deposits can change from round to round.
Counselling guide
Your counselling, step by step
What happens from result day to joining your college.
- 1
Check your rank and eligibility
Confirm your AIR, category and qualifying percentile. Note your state domicile.
- 2
Register on MCC and pay fees
Pay the registration fee and the refundable security deposit. Keep your documents ready.
- 3
Shortlist seats
Filter by branch, quota, fees and bond. Sort them into safe, target and dream.
- 4
Fill and lock choices
Order matters more than count. Put dream seats first and safe seats last.
- 5
Check allotment, upgrade or exit
Decide whether to join, opt for upgradation or exit, based on the rules for that round.
- 6
Later rounds
Each round re-allots leftover and freed seats. Upgrade and exit rules change by round, so read each MCC notice.
- 7
Stray vacancy round
The last leftover seats, mostly deemed and private. Check fees and bond carefully.
- 8
Report and join
Carry original documents, fees and the allotment letter to your college.

Questions
Asked every round
Short answers. Longer ones will be in the counselling guide.
Which round’s cutoff should I look at?
Look at the same round from last year for your next step. Before filling choices for a later round, compare last year’s closing ranks for that round with this year’s earlier rounds.
What is the difference between R1, R2, R3 and stray?
Each round re-allots seats that were left over or freed by upgrades. Closing ranks usually move later each round. The stray vacancy round fills the last remaining seats, mostly deemed and private.
Do past cutoffs guarantee a seat this year?
No. Past closing ranks show how a seat has moved, not where it will close this year. Use them to plan, and always confirm with the official MCC result.
Is CutoffBridge official?
No. CutoffBridge is independent and not affiliated with MCC, NBEMS or any state counselling authority.
Do I need to sign up?
No. You can read everything on CutoffBridge without an account.
